Sweden

Welcome to Sweden, a Nordic country famous for its astounding natural beauty and slow way of life (in addition to ABBA, Ikea and H&M of course).

I’ve had the chance to visit Sweden various times over the years – including the cities of Gothenburg, Malmö, Stockholm, and Vaxholm, and here are some useful tips to help you plan your next visit.

WELCOME TO Sweden!

Basic facts

  • Population: 10.6 million (as of 2024)
  • Currency: Swedish krona (SEK). Check the current exchange rate here.
  • Language: Swedish is the official language in the country. Luckily most Swedes speak great English!
  • Territories: the country is composed of four ‘lands’ or larger regions (Götaland – southern Sweden, Svealand -central Sweden, Österland, Norrland – northern part).
  • Main cities: Stockholm (capital), Gothenburg, Malmö, Uppsala.
  • Fun fact: did you know than more than half of Sweden is covered in forest?

Things to do

Visit the trendy capital Stockholm, as well as the idyllic Stockholm archipelago!

Experience fika (chatting while having coffee) and try a cinnamon roll (kanelbulle).

Enjoy outdoors: the country is filled with lush forests and pristine lakes
