Known for being a small coastal city housing the US Naval Academy, it is also the capital of Maryland. If you’re looking for things to do in Annapolis on a day, keep on reading.

Although it is a popular destination, you can get around pretty easily and it won’t take you more than a few hours to explore it. Feel free to follow this itinerary around the main attractions in town.

What to see in Annapolis

Since Annapolis is quite small, it is the perfect destination for a short day trip.

Along Main Street, you´ll find plenty of colored houses lining up seafood restaurants, shops and antiques, including the historic Maryland Inn. At the end of Main St, the City Dock offers dozens of water activities such as boat cruises.

Are you wondering why there are so many people dressed as Marines in Annapolis? Well, the city houses the US Naval Academy, that’s why.

Established in 1845, this institution has been preparing young men and women to become professional officers since then.

In case you’re curious to explore the vast campus by the Severn River, you can get started at the the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center.

Make sure to pass by Cornhill St and Prince George St, some of the city’s historic residential streets, on your way to the Maryland State House.

Completed in 1779, the building is the oldest capitol in use in the country.

From 1783 to 1784, the Continental Congress met in one of its chambers when Annapolis was the capital of the United States.

Where to eat in Annapolis

In case you’re looking for a cool place to eat near Annapolis, head to Mike’s Bar & Crab House. This waterfront restaurant on the banks of the beautiful South River serves crabs in the finest Chesapeake Bay tradition, so grab the hammer and enjoy!
