Africa is a wide continent housing diverse countries, cultures and experiences. If you’re looking for unforgettable adventures and lifetime memories, look no further.

On this page you will find useful information about the region including basic facts, what to see and do while you’re there as well as my travel-related posts. So far, I’ve visited Ethiopia and Morocco, but many other African destinations are now on my bucket list. Enjoy!

Basic facts

Population: 1.426 million (as of 2023)
Language: the most widely spoken across the continent are Arabic, English, French, Hausa and Swahili.
Territories: Africa comprises 54 countries according to the United Nations.
Best time to visit: since Africa is such an immense territory, this will depend on the specific country you’re heading. For example, if you’re planning a safari in Kenya, you may prefer to do so during the dry season (July to September). On the contrary, if you’re visiting Morocco, spring or autumn would be the best periods to avoid the summer heat.
Fun fact: did you know that more people are attacked by hippos in Africa than any other animal?

Since the African continent is so vast, it is commonly divided into 5 regions:

Northern Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia.
Eastern Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Central Africa: Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, São Tomé and Príncipe.
Southern Africa: Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa.
Western Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
