🏅 Is the World Cup 2026 worth planning as a trip?
If you’ve ever planned a trip around the Olympics, a Grand Slam or another major sporting event, the World Cup follows a similar logic — just on an even bigger scale.
While I haven’t attended a World Cup yet, I’ve experienced the unique energy of global sporting events during the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. Those trips taught me that events of this scale require extra planning, patience and flexibility — but they also deliver unforgettable moments and a powerful sense of shared celebration that’s hard to find elsewhere.
If there’s one small tip I’d share, it’s to embrace the spirit of the event — pack a flag, T-shirt or cap from your own country and wear it proudly. You’ll feel instantly part of the celebration, and you might even spot yourself on TV 🙂.
Many of those lessons apply directly to the FIFA World Cup 2026. With matches spread across three countries and multiple time zones, this is a tournament where planning ahead really matters. Based on my experience, booking flights, accommodation and tickets early can save you both money and stress. I’d also recommend familiarising yourself with the official match schedule early on, as it will help you decide which cities to base yourself in and how to structure your trip around the games.
✨ Final thoughts on the World Cup 2026 host cities
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is more than a football tournament — it’s an invitation to explore the American continent through some of its most exciting and diverse cities. From cultural capitals and creative hubs to destinations surrounded by nature, this edition offers endless possibilities for travellers willing to look beyond the matches.
Whether you attend a single game or build an entire trip around the tournament, approaching it with a traveller’s mindset will make the experience far richer. Many of these cities are no strangers to major global events either — Los Angeles, for instance, has a long history of hosting large-scale international sporting events and will do so again when it welcomes the Summer Olympics in 2028.
