2025 travel year in review: destinations, highlights and upcoming plans
As 2025 comes to an end, I’ve been looking back at a year that felt intense, grounding, and deeply meaningful. While I didn’t travel as far as in previous years, the trips I took these last twelve months felt more intentional: a mix of slow travel close to home, family road trips, reunions with friends, and a few unforgettable adventures abroad. From Morocco and the Austrian Alps to London, Spain and the French Atlantic coast, this 2025 travel year in review reflects where I went, what I experienced, and how travel shaped my year — both on the road and at home. Below, you’ll find my 2025 travel recap by month, along with destinations visited, highlights, and links to the travel guides I published throughout the year.
Discovering the Austrian Alps: Kaprun, Maria Alm, Saalfelden & Zell am See
Set in the heart of the Salzburg region (known as Salzburger Land), the Austrian Alps are one of Europe’s most scenic alpine regions — a mix of lakeside towns, dramatic Alps peaks, glacier views and endless hiking trails. This travel guide focuses on four of the area’s most beautiful spots: Kaprun, Maria Alm, Saalfelden and Zell am See, where you’ll find everything from wooden chalets and panoramic gondolas to serene lakes and high-alpine viewpoints. Below, you’ll discover the best things to do, where to eat and stay, practical travel tips, and easy day trips to help you plan your next Austrian Alps adventure. At the end of this post, you’ll also find a map to help you pinpoint all the locations mentioned here.

Exploring the French Alps: Annecy, Chamonix, Évian-les-Bains and La Clusaz
While I was living in Geneva as an expat, I had the chance to explore the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in neighboring France. In this travel guide, I´ll share a few destinations that I visited in the French Alps during my time there, from the charming towns of Annecy or Chamonix, to the elegant Evian or La Clusaz ski resort. Also, I'll walk you through what and where to eat, where to stay and some day trip ideas. At the end of this post, I've also included a map so you can easily pinpoint all the locations mentioned here.
Skiing in the French Pyrenees: La Pierre Saint Martin, Gourette and La Mongie
I just returned from enjoying three wonderful days skiing in the French Pyrenees with my brother and it was so refreshing! After four years since the last time I had skied, I'm glad to report that I survived and that I also had lots of fun. We visited three ski stations in three days with my Dad's campervan. Follow our adventure!
Winter in St Cergue
St Cergue is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. Given its proximity to Geneva (only 40 mins away), I’ve been there a couple of times already, snowshoeing and skiing.
Ski day trip to Pennsylvania
Today I went on a ski day trip with friends to Liberty Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania, just 1h30 away from Washington DC. It was so much fun (and a bit scary) to ski again after soooo many years.
