A daytrip to Lausanne & the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces
We spent a wonderful Saturday having wine with friends in an area by lake Léman close to Lausanne known as the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces. The weather was lovely and this was the best way to say good bye to summer.
WALKING AROUND LAUSANNE
After leaving from the Cornavin train station in Geneva, our first stop was Lausanne . Also located by lake Léman, we strolled around the elegant Ouchy area.
ON THE HUNT FOR WINES
After visiting Lausanne , we headed to the famous Lavaux Vineyard Terraces. These steep vineyards on the terraced slopes above lake Léman between Lutry and St Saphorin offer spectacular views. This area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We stopped in Cully first and got some wines from Frères Dubois. I recommend you to then walk to the Cully CGN ferry stop to enjoy your drinks while having a breathtaking view of the lake and the nearby mountains.
Our second stop was in Rivaz, where to went to Lavaux Vinorama for some more wine. We drank it at a very quiet spot we found in the village, perched on the lake while admiring the sunset. It was a priceless moment!

Traveling by train with SBB is by far the best and most comfortable option in Switzerland . Even if it’s quite expensive, there are good deals such as the ‘demi- tarif‘ and other special tickets. The distance between Geneva Cornavin and Rivaz is around 1h30.
