During our weekend getaway trip to Villa Abecia and Camargo, we stayed at the Hostal Cepas de mi Abuelo in Villa Abecia. We enjoyed a couple of very relaxing days here and would come back in the blink of an eye. If you like being surrounded by nature as well as indulging yourself with fresh products and good wine, this is your place to go! Read this hotel review to learn more.
How to get to Hostal Cepas de mi Abuelo
Directions: In order to get to the hostel in Villa Abecia from Tarija, follow RN 1 and then turn left when you see ‘Villa Abecia, Potosí’.
You’ll drive up around green and hilly landscape first and then through deserted and mountains full of cactus.
You’ll pass through poor and rural areas with very modest housing and infrastructure. El Puente is the last village in the Tarija region before reaching Villa Abecia (in Chuquisaca). The distance is 122km, however expect the trip to take you a bit over 2h (welcome to Bolivian roads!).
Once you get to the main square (Plaza Central), take calle Campero. The hostel is at the end of that street, on the right-hand side.
Location
Conveniently located by the main square in the tranquil village of Villa Abecia, the hostel is literally a few steps away from anything you might want to do here.
Just enjoy the slow lifestyle: sit on a bench while savoring a delicious goat milk ice cream (helado de chiva), people-watch or head to the nearby local market to buy fresh fruits.
The hostel facilities
As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the owner’s sister and three cute dogs. This family-owned property is usually run by Manuel Baptista Daroca and features a swimming pool, its own winery and a colorful parrot.
Our room
Our room was not too big but it was cozy enough for the two of us. It included a small bathroom and was decorated with local fabrics. Besides, in the evening, what we did was sit in the comfortable living area to read a bit (we’re already planning a big trip to Argentina!).
Breakfast
The hostel has a big garden where breakfast (not included in the price) is served every morning. Everything is homemade, from fresh scrambled eggs to yummy marmalades or chopped fruits.
The space is big and we sat at the main table where we chatted with another couple while the doggie was playing around and the birds chirped.
The pool
Hostal Cepas de mi Abuelo features an inviting swimming pool surrounded by lush vegetation and a hammock. Although we didn’t get to enjoy it (we headed to the river pools instead, see full guide here), we will use it for sure next time we visit!
Other amenities
Villa Abecia is a quiet village famous for its spirituous drinks and this hostel was no exception and features its own winery!
The owner’s sister was very welcoming and showed us all the premises, even a tiny room they have for the nice products knitted by rural women in the area.
Finally, parking is available in front of the hostel at no additional charge.
Booking
Since online booking is not available, you can contact the owner Manuel through Whatsapp: +591 72990111.
Most likely, you will be asked to make a deposit.
My personal review
Given its location, the warm assistance by the hostel owners and the homemade delicious breakfast, I would highly recommend staying here for the weekend!
