Romania is a country located in central Europe. I traveled there in the summer of 2017 for a work conference and was positively surprised. Beyond count Dracula living in the Transylvania region, I really enjoyed my time there. This is a cheap destination and there’s quite a lot to do.

  • Population: 19 million
  • Currency: Romanian leu (RON). Check the current exchange rate here.
  • Language: Romanian (it’s actually somewhat similar to Spanish!).
  • Territories: there are 8 regions in the country.
  • Main cities: Bucharest (capital), Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iasi and Constanta.
  • Fun fact: Romania has more than 60% of the brown bear population in Europe.

Things to do

Visit Bucharest, including the imposing Palace of the Parliament

Explore Bran Castle and try to find count Dracula

Wander around the charming city of Sighișoara
